The City of St. John’s, is celebrating National Forest Week (September 17 to 23) and the 13-year anniversary of National Tree Day on September 20.
On Wednesday, an outdoor tree planting ceremony is taking place at Victoria Park

National Tree Day is an opportunity for Canadians to appreciate the great benefits that trees provide us – clean air, wildlife habitat, reduced energy demands and opportunities to connect with nature. This year’s theme for National Forest week is “Canada’s Forests: Supporting Biological Diversity”

The City encourages residents to show their appreciation for trees and forests on September 20.

In addition to National Tree Day, the City of St. John’s plants 400 to 500 trees annually. This done in recognition of the multitude of environmental benefits that trees provide.
