Description de l’événement
Tree Canada, in collaboration with the City of Saskatoon, is excited to celebrate National Tree Day (NTD), presented by BMO!This is the biggest NTD celebration yet, with events taking place across the country during National Forest Week.
Join us to plant trees and shrubs to connect with nature. Tree Canada experts and volunteers will be there to provide support and answer your questions. We’ll also provide gloves and shovels! This event is completely FREE!
This planting initiative aims to support environmental sustainability, improve community well-being, and foster long-term ecological resilience through three key objectives:
Enhancing Biodiversity: The planting project features 13 different species, 9 of which are native to Saskatchewan. It includes a diverse mix of deciduous and evergreen trees, along with shrubs that offer food and shelter for wildlife, as well as berries and fruits for human use.
Mitigating Urban Heat Islands: The planting site is located directly beside a multi-use pathway in an area currently dominated by manicured grass. It is adjacent to a busy local street with limited existing canopy cover. The site is relatively open, making it vulnerable to strong winds and drifting snow.
Promoting Social Impact: Residents from the neighborhood south of the planting area have expressed interest in additional greenery and are already involved in maintaining a previous planting just west of the site. Community volunteers will be invited to participate in the new planting event, where they will receive a brief orientation on the environmental benefits of planting and the importance of long-term care and stewardship.
