Tree Canada’s National Tree Day Planting Event in St. John’s

Tree Canada, in collaboration with the City of St. John’s is excited to celebrate National Tree day, presented by BMO! This is the biggest NTD celebration yet, with events taking place across the country during National Forest Week. Join us at the New H.G.R Mews Community Garden Site to plant trees and connect with nature!

Volunteers will participate in digging holes and planting approximately 160 native trees and shrubs.

You’ll be guided by Tree Canada experts and experienced volunteers who will be on hand to support you and answer your tree-related questions. We’ll provide gloves and shovels—all you need to bring is your enthusiasm!

The project aims to enhance biodiversity through three key actions: planting native yellow birch to restore a missing species, implementing fire-smart practices by strategically planting conifers to protect against grass fires, and creating a natural windbreak using white spruce to shelter the nearby community garden from wind, snow, and excessive exposure. These efforts will contribute to a healthier, more resilient ecosystem while also supporting the local community.
